Heavy Cross
GOSSIP | MySpace Music Videos
I was always curious about Beth Ditto, being a Fashion Design major I always come across her on Style.com etc. Today I watched a video of her about fashion of course (what else?), she's amazing. I will probably blog about the fashion stuff later on my own fashion blog, but that aside her band The Gossip is also fabulous. Their music is categorized as Experimental, Soul and Punk. (Experimental means that they create a specific genre of music in unorthodox ways...I hope I wasn't the only one who didn't know that) I love it. I've only listened to Heavy Cross so far, cause that's the song that was featured in the video I watched. Anyways everybody check it out! =]

Clarifications
** Look what I stumbled upon after publishing this! AOL Radio's 10 Best '80s Songs, Don't Stop BELIEEEEEEEEEEEEVING**
WHOAWHOAWHOA. So China is afraid that I'll post anti-communist sentiments on musicink - OBVIOUSLY people can't be trusted to blog EVER because the natural impulse is to immediately start bashing the government.
But ultimately the firewall was no match for me and my vpn creator, and I got to check musicink out after a long respite.
First of all, its not that I don't have the utmost respect for Journey, they're upbeat and catchy and in general fun in the sun for everyone, and most certainly fall into the wonderful world of classics. HOWEVER, Tom Petty and Journey are not the same genre of artist! Their similarities only go so far as their hair stylings.
Pictoral comparison:
1. JOURNEY
What a bunch of goofballs. My favorite is the guy on the left... Can anyone guess why his outfit has gone terribly terribly wrong? (Hint: pants) (Hint hint: shadows) I might have to claw my eyes out now that I've noticed this.
2. Tom Petty (& The Heartbreakers)
Tom Petty, you're a BAMF. Although on a similar note, the guy in the middle seems to be suffering from the same pants malfunction as the other guy. But at least he's wearing denim.
Two funny stories about Journey, more specifically "Don't Stop Believing":
When I was canvassing in NY over the summer, I worked for this group called Environmental Action. I'm sure if you've walked around NY during the summer you've seen the obnoxiously smiley people in blue shirts waving you down and badgering you for money or even better membership (Don't by the way, I signed up for an account to scam the commission pay system and try as I might I couldn't get it cancelled. Crafty bastards.) A sister (or brother?) group of EA, was this gay rights activist group. And every morning we'd have a meeting to give out awards for most money raised and such. Now one day, a special day for the homosexuals or something, they brought in a Rainbow Pride CD (I forgot the name, but I'm sure its a configuration of Rainbow and Pride and Purple and Anthem and.. Rainbow), guess what the #1 song was?? That's right! Don't Stop Believin'! I don't know why, but gay people love that song. I guess this story wasn't so much funny as just a story.. well more like an observation.
The second story is shorter. There's this crazyass MF girl I know called Audrey. She looks like a demented mouse. She also sings like one. And when "Don't Stop..." came on, and obviously everyone started singing because who can resist, she did too. Now it was ok during the main parts because everyone else's voice buffered hers. But guess who didn't stop singing at the lyrics..... She decided the guitar solo was her time to shine. Good thing everyone was drunk (but me).
Links links links (Do I get that A+ now??):

ANNND one last link because I'm at work and so are (most of) you and I know you do this don't feign innocence: NapTime!
Also, I recently heard about possibly planning a senior year trip (from college... geez time flies, highschool senior trip seemed like it was only years ago.) and I was thinking HOW ABOUT SOUTH AFRICA TO WATCH THE 2010 WORLD CUPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahaha ok so its a little expensive..................................... but EPIC.

Music That Doesn't Suck pt. 2
I need to do a follow-up to Isabelle's Tom Petty post - Why? Because I just bought Journey's Greatest Hits cd from Costco and it's fucking awesome. (And it qualifies for her long hair/before our time requisite) But seriously. "Any Way You Want It"? "Open Arms"? "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'"? "Faithfully"? And of course... "Don't Stop Believing". All so damn aMAzing. Don't even try to convince me otherwise, because if you do, you're wrong. That's it. Bottom line. Don't even try to lie. I know you sing along when they play it on the radio. Power ballads, ftw.

Propper props
HEY I've been listening to the playlist and it's got some good stuff! I keep forgetting how awesome Knights of Cydonia is because of the loonng intro but when the vocals kick in proper, it's just overwhelmingly awesome. Fancy Footwork is super catchy.
Recommend Me: Kings Of Leon
Hey hey!! I need some music-related help! I'm currently loving the Kings of Leon - there's just one problem: I only have two songs by them ("Sex On Fire" and "Use Somebody")! I have damned myself to listen to only two songs on repeat all day. I hate downloading whole albums and there are no cd stores near me so... This is where you come in. Somebody recommend me good Kings of Leon songs!

You know what's pretty crazy? The fact that we're approaching the two year mark on this blog. It's exciting. let's gather some balloons and pop some champagne. I'm ready to party. Go crazy.
In the meantime, here's some Justice. I found out about them about a year ago, and I do enjoy some of their songs. Check them out below.

Playlist.com
Hey, I added a music player to the bottom of the page, because who wants to link out anymore?
SO now instead of using youtube, you can go to playlist.com and use the account I set up for musicink. I suggest you add the the playlist I already started - you can't go wrong its the only one there! That way we can slowly amass a huge collection of music to listen to while browsing eachothers' posts! =) How fun.

Music That Doesn't Suck
Music used to be so much better before our time. This is because:
1. To be cool you had to have long hair, regardless of gender. Other than that it didn't matter what the fuck you looked like. Without all that effort wasted on image maintenance, think of how much more time they have to devote to making music that doesn't suck! Take Tom Petty.

Now that's a man that did a lot of drugs and forgot to cut his hair.
He's awesome:
American Girl anyone?
I'm listening to it as I frantically throw clothing into my closet.
This was going to be a much more ambitious post, but I got tired. Searching for an image tired me out too much I suppose (haha Weison).
Plus I have to pack for Beijing!
